Official Rules
1. You may enter any type of dessert. There will not be different categories for the desserts. All of the dessert entries will be competing against each other.
2. All desserts should be fully prepared at home and brought in Sunday morning. There will not be any prep time between the end of service and the start of the judging. If needed you should find some way to keep your dessert warm or cold throughout the morning. Outlets and refrigerator space will be limited so be prepared.
3. You are encouraged to decorate your dessert, but remember that too many toppings will detract from the presentation and the taste. Also desserts will be judged as a whole item, so you may not want to add toppings that detract from the taste of your dessert. For example it you make a pie and forget to refrigerate your cool whip topping it might be better to leave it off so that the warm runny cool whip doesn’t detract from your pie.
4. Contestants are responsible for labeling their dessert with the supplied form filled out. Contestants are also responsible for supplying all of their own serving utensils, etc. The sponsors of the cookoff will provide an area for each contestant.
5. Each contestant must cook a minimum of one cake pie or pan. If you are making cookies cupcakes or other small items you should prepare at least one dozen. Be prepared to give the judges enough of a sample for 5 judges to try your dessert. So if you are making cookies then you should submit 5 cookies to the judges. If you are making cake or pie then you should provide at least 2 large slices. After the cake or pie is judged for presentation it will be cut into smaller slices for the judges to sample.
6. Each contestant will be assigned a contestant’s number by the Chief Scorekeeper and be given an official judging plate. Each contestant should verify that the number on the bottom of their plate is the same as their assigned contestant number. Each contestant is responsible to deliver their plate with their dessert on it to the judges.
7. Judges will be told they should vote for the dessert they like best based on the following major considerations: taste, presentation, color, and texture.
8. The decisions of the Chief Judge shall be final.
