The Cincinnati Church of Christ's Annual Women’s Day reached a new high with the 2006 event in that Women's Day was actually a mini conference held on May 6th with over 200 women in attendance. The event consisted of a key note speaker, individualized classes, music, food and even some extreme makeovers. The theme of the day was Extreme Makeover - God's Edition. What woman doesn’t want and need a makeover? And what could be more important than a spiritual makeover?
We started the event off with a spiritual Extreme Makeover and had two great designers (Joy Lucas and Devona Williams) who introduced all of the makeover candidates. Each of us in the audience could see ourselves in many of the contestants: Gilda Guilt-Ridden, Hilda Hiding, Donna Distrustful, Wilhamena Wantawhatadonahave and Emma Emotional. Each of these women were suffering from a much-needed remodeling of their hearts and a spiritual makeover.
After the skit, we listened to an incredible message from Roberta Balsom. Roberta has a nursing background and she talked about how you assess a patient’s health and detect problems – just like we can do for ourselves. Her relateability and realness helped us all to take the message to heart.
After Roberta’s class, we broke into specialized classes focusing on an area of our choice. There was a Beautiful Mind (overcoming negativity), Beautiful Body (health and fitness), Beautiful Purpose (singles), Beautiful Future (teens and campus) and Beautiful Marriage (intimacy). As a follow-up to Roberta’s opening message, the individual classes helped us to further focus on areas where we can ask God to change us into what we can be for Him.
The day ended with music and part two of the Extrme Makeover where the contestants became Gilda at Peace, Hilda Outgoing, Donna the Trusting, Wilhamena Grateful and Emma Confident. What an incredible time for us and our friends – to be entertained, to be fed spiritually and emotionally, to feel loved, to learn and grow together as women unified through God. Our deepest thanks to Sydney and all the women who worked hard to bring this together and encourage so many.
